K'gari Explorer Tour FAQs

Hervey Bay is a 3.5 hour drive north of Brisbane and 1.5 hours drive south of Bundaberg. Mainland Reception is located at River Heads, Hervey Bay. On Google Maps, this will appear as 54 Ariadne St.

You can get to Hervey Bay by travelling with any major coach operators, on rail or via direct flights that leave Brisbane and Sydney.

Rainbow Beach is approximately 3 hours drive north of Brisbane and 2.5 hours drive south of Bundaberg. Meet your guide at 36 Rainbow Beach Road for a prompt 7.45 am departure on the day of your tour.

Courtesy coach transfers are available from select locations in Hervey Bay and Rainbow Beach. Approximate pick-up and drop-off times are listed below, with specific times for each location to be confirmed at the time of booking.

Hervey Bay: pick-up from 7.00 - 8.00 am / drop off from 5.30 - 6.00 pm.
Rainbow Beach: pick-up from 7.30 - 8.00 am / drop off from 4.30 - 5.00 pm.

If you have booked a 3-day Getaway, 4-day Experience or 5-day Ultimate package then we definitely can. Flights arrival times do not suit pick-ups for the 1- and 2-day tours.

Rainbow Beach to Hervey Bay is approximately 1.5 hours drive when travelling on the mainland.

To ensure that guest pick-ups and drop-offs are seamless, it is imperative that you book a tour departing from the same location as your accommodation.

Eg. If your local accommodation is based in Hervey Bay, you can only book a tour departing Hervey Bay. If your accommodation is based in Rainbow Beach, please ensure you book a tour departing Rainbow Beach only.

Our 4WD coaches have been specifically designed to navigate the sandy tracks and unique terrain found on K'gari. They are air-conditioned, have panoramic windows and are capable of carrying 40 passengers.

For all multi-day tours, guests receive one night of accommodation in a standard resort hotel room at K'gari Beach Resort. These rooms come with ceiling fans to increase airflow, if you would like an upgrade to an air-conditioned room, please contact our Reservations Team at 1800 372 737 (additional costs apply).

The resort offers triple, double/twin and single hotel rooms along the spectacular 75 Mile Beach. Each resort room has been recently renovated and includes tea and coffee-making facilities, a balcony or a patio. The resort offers many facilities for guest use, but the best place to unwind at the end of your tour is at McKenzie’s on 75 Bar & Restaurant.

If you're travelling with friends or family, for a little extra, you can upgrade to a two-bedroom apartment. These spacious apartments have a double bedroom, twin bedroom, full kitchen and bathroom, lounge room with TV and a private balcony.

For guests on our three, four, or five-day package, your pre or post-night accommodation at Kingfisher Bay Resort is in a standard resort hotel room. Room upgrades are available by contacting our Reservations Team.

Kingfisher Bay Resort is a four-star integrated eco accommodation, immersed within the tree-covered dunes along the western bay of K’gari. The resort caters to families with a suite of interconnecting hotel rooms, spacious multi-bedroom villas, four lagoon-style swimming pools that are perfect for little ones to splash and play, kids' menus at all restaurants, as well as direct access to the calm, western beach.

Day Tour: A hot and cold buffet lunch is served at K'gari Beach Resort.

Two-Day Tour: In the morning, a hot and cold buffet breakfast is served in the main restaurant from 6:30 am - 8:00 am, with a selection of cereals, toast & condiments, fresh fruit, bacon & eggs, sausages, baked beans, hash browns, juice, tea & coffee. On the first day, a hot and cold buffet lunch is served at K'gari Beach Resort, as well as a picnic lunch to enjoy on the second day.

Dinner will be at leisure and at the guest's own expense.

Three, Four and Five-Day Packages: For the touring component, please see above. Whilst staying at Kingfisher Bay Resort, a hot and cold buffet breakfast is included at Sand & Wood Restaurant in the resort's centre complex.

As this tour is off-road on sand tracks and conditions can be rough at times, we advise all pregnant travellers and people with medical conditions to seek medical advice before booking this tour.

Children over the age of one are welcome on all of our tours. If your child is under the age of eight, please provide them with a car seat. If you do not have a car seat, please call the Reservations Team before booking.

The average summer temperature is 29°C (86°F), average winter temperature is 22°C (72°F). Bring warmer clothing for cool winter nights.

Our tours generally depart rain, hail or shine but in the event of extreme weather, tours can be cancelled. In this event, if you booked directly with us, refunds will be issued. If you booked through an agent, your refund will be determined by your booking agent.

Air Fraser operates scenic flights over K'gari. These can be booked during the tour, weather and tide permitting. Talk to your guide for more details.
